Amber's 2026 Season - Steel Magnolias.png

Written by Robert Harling

Directed by Amber Layne

Steel Magnolias is a poignant and sharply funny portrait of Southern womanhood. Over the course of three years, six women gather regularly at Truvy’s salon to share gossip, swap recipes, tease each other, and support one another through life’s highs and heartbreaks.

From the excitement of weddings and babies to the devastation of loss, their conversations (punctuated with wit, warmth, and honesty) reveal the deep bonds of friendship that sustain them.

Written with humor and heart, Steel Magnolias is a tribute to the strength and resilience of women, reminding us that even in the face of unimaginable grief, life goes on, with laughter, lipstick, and love.

Auditions will be held on January 15, 16, & 17, 2026.

Performances will be held on May 1, 2, 3, 8, & 9, 2026.

All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be in Katonah, NY.

The Phoenix Theatre & Arts Company (or PTAC) is an independent community theatre company located in the Hudson Valley region of NY. Composed of a small board of dedicated volunteers, motivated local actors, and talented technicians, PTAC launched in September of 2020 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a NYS registered charity.

Our company typically performs two mainstage shows each year (both plays and musicals), along with workshops, staged readings, and other events, both in person and virtually. We have performed in Westchester, Putnam, Orange, and Ulster Counties.

We encourage anyone and everyone to audition! PTAC has a non-discrimination casting policy and casting is open to members of all ages, races, genders, sexes, orientations, religions, abilities, and experience level.

“The theater is the only institution in the world which has been dying for four thousand years and has never succumbed. It requires tough and devoted people to keep it alive.”
